Agave Accented

The agave plants in the Anza Borrego desert intrigue me with their shape, texture, and subtle colors. In this image, I accented the edges of the plant, toned down the shadows, and pushed the colors with a LAB curve layer.

Low angle side light makes the edges of the plant stand out. I like the fine texture and subdued colors. I’ve never heard of LAB curve layer. What’s the effect?

Thank you. I am happy that the colors and light were pleasing. The technique I applied is described in this article on Man from Mars Method

This is a really beautiful look at this plant! I love the colors and shapes. And yes I do think it’s kind of like an abstract.

Thank you for the article on “LAB curve layer”, Dick. I’m not sure how far I can understand it with my poor English, but I’ll try anyway.

Dick: I really like the light here. I also like the little snippets of red on the tips. A touch more contrast and vibrance would suit me a little better or you could go B&W. I’m a color junkie so I prefer the color choice. Well seen, captured and presented. >=))>

I use only the technique on the first 2 pages.

I like the original best. It has a nice pay of light that creates a more abstract composition.
