Aging gracefully

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

The rookery where I shoot egrets in the spring consists of several large eucalyptus, which are not pretty. But one has a drooping branch that I always find attractive. Action was slow this day and I decided to shoot the branch. I only had a long lens so did a pano. I’ve shot this branch before and may have posted it in previous years, but this is from this year.

Pano stitched in LR to give a DNG. Some tonal adjustments made for a slight contrast boost, and a limb coming in from the UR pruned out.

It looks like I tend to feel these days, Diane. A bit broken and decidedly balding, but still hanging in there. I like the composition and the feel of this image.

Diane: I can see why you come back to this. A simple but evocative subject very nicely captured and presented. Nicely done. >=))>

The simplicity and this image gives you a feeling. To reshoot over a period of time has become real important to you. That is so Cool.

Thanks, @Dennis_Plank, @Bill_Fach and @Gill_Vanderlip! I need to go back and see what the subtle changes are from year to year. When I find time to dig them out, I’ll add them to the thread.

For me, this is all about the statement the simple form takes. Looking at the channels in Photoshop, I like how this looks in the blue channel. It’s a black and white that let’s the form stand alone.

Thanks, @John_Williams! Somehow I didn’t see your reply till now. The image is on a RAID drive that I don’t dare turn on while the system is overloaded with astro processing, but your idea will get a look when I escape from the current black hole! It sounds like a great idea!
