Apollo Mandala

Description:

This is an attempt at using the symmetry of the Apollo butterfly (Parnassius apollo) to make a mandala. I love this butterfly, so hope I haven’t deformed it too much.

Specific Feedback Requested:

Pertinent technical details or techniques:

Separated the butterfly (minus antennae) from its wild Bulgarian background. Duplicated it , adding the BG colour, rotating the composite and cropping. I then found a Kaleidoscope site online and it did the rest!

Is this a composite? (focus stacks or exposure blends are not considered composites)

Yes

Beautiful!

Isn’t it fun taking a single object and folding, inverting, reversing, and creating a whole new work?
