Low angle late October afternoon sun diffused through high cirrhus created soft side illumination of these grass seed heads along the Applegate Ridge Trail near Ruch, OR. Trailhead is at 3,000’ and only 6.5 miles from home. When I left home there was mist burning off the valleys and hillsides from earlier rain, so I was anticipating landscapes with a telephoto. But the mist was gone when I got there. I found other subjects.
Manually focused and handheld at about 0.75m with a Tamron 2.8/70-180 @ 180mm on a Sony a7Riv, f/8, 1/1,000", ISO 100. Cropped and adjusted to my liking in LrC. Often this svelte and fast tele zoom is my walk around lens, and at 70mm it manually focuses to 1:2 reproduction so serves as both a landscape and macro tool.
