About This Image
On February 25, 1945 on a training flight (night navigation on instruments), this B-18 crashed in a remote area on the big island of Hawaii. The crew suffered only minor injuries and were rescued on February 27. More information: pacificwrecks.com/aircraft/b-18/36-446html

Jim, it took me a bit to recognize the airplane. At first glance I was thinking some kind of abandoned fencing. The greens look good and the airplane does stand out, especially in the larger view.

Wow! What a site and capture. It also took me a minute and honestly didn’t figure it out completely until I read your description. The upper “wing” I thought had to be an old, weathered stump… what else could it be? Of course the story becomes clear as the eye begins to explore the rest of the scene - and wow, what a story it tells.

Thank you Mark and Lon for commenting. The area it went down is not very far from Hilo, but apparently very difficult to reach. It is on private property. I’m not sure the website I included is good. I tried to open it from my post and couldn’t. If you search B-18 Bolo Hawaii there are some interesting articles about it.
