The high-key approach is perfect for a succulent like this. It makes it delicate and almost fragile. I could see a series of these hanging on a wall. Artistic filters are where I go when I want to play. Topaz Studio 2 has several I enjoy. The one I use most often is the one that simplifies the detail and looks like a watercolor painting. It is classified as abstraction. I just discovered both Topaz Studio and Topaz Simplify are legacy products that are not being sold. I guess I am not helpful in terms of what programs are available. What I have used that is current are the various distort filters in Photoshop. Sometimes I have combined them with the Nik Silver Efex Pro B & W filters which I use in various blending modes.

Bill, all these hydra shots are killers. Makes me want to go plant some, but I doubt they would like our cool, damp weather. do they grow in pots inside?
This one, with it’s soft, muted colours, perfect comp, and high key treatment, is very compelling. I might suggest getting rid of the bit of “leaves” on the lower edges. They draw my eye a bit.
Bill, re artistic filters, you might start with the artistic fiters in Photoshop. If you use Topaz, they have several cool fiters to play with in Studio 2.
This free site also has some fiters that might work with flora stuff :

Most of the online filters relate to editing phone shots of people, I’m finding.
If you really get into filters, there are some un-free sites I can give you.
