Battle Road Trees in Snow - Updated - changed crop slightly

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I took this a part of a larger panorama that included an historic house, but I think I like this crop better. Each part of the panorama was focus stacked. I went a little higher ISO to get the shutter speed up because of the snow. Part of the reason I did the focus stack was to get the aperture open to get the faster shutter speed,

This is in front of Hartwell Tavern which is on the American Revolutionary War battle trail in Lexington and Concord.

Hi Elizabeth, this is a very pleasant New England winter scene; a tree-lined country road, complete with a stone wall and wooden sign post. The DOF allows my eye to wander from the bottom right corner all the way to the distant BG tree and wall, where the road appears to be turning. The wall provides a nice line for my eye to follow, but the trees also provide lines for exploring the image from bottom to top. Glad you excluded the house; generally less is more. Nicely done!

Hi @elizabeth, This morning (1/11)? Nice to see someone else working in the Greater Boston neighborhood. You have caught those lovely arched Sugar Maples along that historic road really nicely. I like how you have evoked the chilly snowy morning. Well seen and processed!

This has a really nice flow Elizabeth. The diagonal of the road and rock wall into the image is a perfect lead, and the way you’ve composed the sugar maples in a row keeps that flow going. The upper branches with their nice forms are very attractive, especially with that dusting of snow. I prefer the top image with that left tree cropped out.

Hi Elizabeth,
This is quite lovely. The cool blue tones work perfectly for conveying this wintertime scene. The diagonal stone wall is another wonderful element as it draws me perfectly into the image. There is nothing quite like a fresh coating of snow to soothe the soul. BTW, I like the top image with the tree cropped off. Beautifully done!

Hi, @elizabeth. This is a classic example of how a very minor edit can make a huge difference in an image. The first image, without the tree trunk on the far left, is much stronger IMHO. It simplifies the composition and my eye isn’t drawn to it. Rather, I’m able to explore the rest of the elements. The monochromatic color scheme also perfectly imparts a feeling of cold/winter. I love this one.
