Description
The Beartooth Highway, usually opens for Memorial Day Weekend. Driving it then, especially the from Cooke City, MT can mean travelling through snow canyons. The snow remains well into June when you can find skiers and snowboarders cruising some of the larger drifts. This is a view of Beartooth Butte (on the right) with Pilot and Index peaks in the distance taken in mid-June last year.
Specific Feedback
Because it was early in Spring, my goals here were to show off the unusual (for the area) color in Beartooth Butte (sedimentary rock) and the distant, much older peaks that were sculpted by glaciers.

Beautiful image, Mark! I really like the layers of colour here. I’ve been wanting to visit this area for the past couple years, but it’s always been closed by the time I was in the area. It’s definitely on the list for this year though!
Yea, the colors are fantastic Mark! Tragically, this might be similar to what it looks like up there right now! We need more snow! Great shot though. I love the vibrant colors in the foreground with a very nice soft sky. Really makes it all very realistic.
This fits the them of this week very well Mark, and it’s a nice grand scene showing off the mix of winter color as the contrasting snow recedes from the wall of white that was.
I don’t have a lot of suggestions, but you might play with a slight crop. (And maye the color is a little too lime??)
Nice grand landscape that shows off the seasonal transition. The only suggestion Imight have is a little more saturation in the sky. It looks a tad hazy.
Hi Mark,
I am liking the color palette in this scene as it has a nice mix of warm and cool tones. This certainly shows the changing of the seasons quite well IMO. I also like the white puffy clouds as well as that colorful butte you mentioned. This makes for a wonderful grand landscape. Very nicely done.
What a magnificent landscape! The timing perfectly matches the theme of “First Signs of Spring” with the melting snow. The clouds and interplay of light also complement the dynamic nature of the transition.
