David: Really nice capture of the action and I love the bold color of the flower. I would be tempted to pull up some of the shadow detail on the bee but can’t offer any other suggestions. I know how busy these guys can be so kudos to you for a solid capture. >=))>

David, this is very attractive and the flower contrasts well with the BG. My suggestion would be for next time, that you use a flash. If you could also have a a diffuser - even a simple piece of opaque plastic over the flash - then your bee would be more bright and detailed. If necessary then you could also tone down the flower in LR / PS.

Exposure is nice and comp is very pleasing. Is that part of a leg protruding from the LH side bee’s thorax? It looks like there’s some cloning artifacts there. For macro flash, use a big diffuser which will soften the edges of highlights and provide soft lighting to the shadows. You could also go vertical and crop from the RH side. Other than that, photo looks good…Jim

Jim, no cloning here, I think what looks like artifact is probably just that. I did try to use contrast and brightness to increase emphasis on the Bee. Because it was outside on a fairly sunny day, I didn’t think to use the flash. I will try the next time as I am expecting many opportunities to take these pictures.

Mike, thanks for the comment.

David, congratulations on the new macro lens! To me macro is like a whole other world. When I bring up an image of an insect or something on the big screen it always amazes me of the details, I would never have seen just out there looking at it. Really nice shot, but I agree with the others about flash and a diffuser. Looking forward to more shots.
