Big Red One

Lily Surfing

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We have had this big red day lily in our garden for the past several years and every year it seems to come in stronger. This was the first bud to bloom and I liked the surrounding buds. They have since opened as well and we should have a pretty good show for the next couple of weeks.

We also have a robust community of anole lizards and it seems that lily surfing is one of their favorite pastimes. Caught this little guy riding the waves and took this standing off a bit just to be sure I got him on camera. I was able to get closer but this was the only shot with the lizard and the lily stamens/anthers in the same focal plane. Wind prevented any kind of attempt at a stack.>=))>

Specific Feedback

I had some shots with the lizard clear of the intervening center parts but it bugs me to see lily shots with the stamens and anthers soft. I suppose the lizard may have carried the day but I’m a flower guy so lack of sharpness in the fine detailed parts bugs me. Your thoughts?

This one got lost in the feed, something I find happening a lot now. The first one is just a jolt of color - my lilies are just leaves right now. Love the lizard and hope you can do even more work with them in photos. They are so tiny and quick!
