I was watching this Say’s phoebe hunt for a few minutes this morning, and was lucky to capture it catching this bee which it pulled off the rabbitbrush below.

Feedback on the composition appreciated - especially cropping. I wanted to include the yellow rabbitbrush.

I think the comp as a result of your cropping is spot on. The important thing beyond wanting to include the rabbit brush, which is important, is that you’ve given plenty of space in front for the bird to fly in to. Maybe a little more room up top, but that’s definitely a personal choice as there is enough room that no tension is created by being to close - if that makes sense.
The only suggestion I have is somehow dropping the lightness of the bird and maybe even increase the contrast. I only mention because the rabbit brush has very nice contrast, appropriate brightness and sharpness. The plant almost competes with the bird. I might try and reverse the attention so the bird gets all the credit.
My kind of bird photo, Debbie. The rabbit bush adds a lot to the image-color, scale, sense of environment. The bird is well positioned in the frame. As Lon mentioned, you might play around with the bird’s contrast. Nice to have the wasp. For me, the plant and bird have equal billing and the two combine to create a pleasing image. Well done to get this shot.
Nice capture Debbie. I really like the bokeh and the bush is a must as a supporting actor. The tail of the bird is perfect to me. The rest of him/her is too bright. I think you can even use the PS darkening tool. If you can make the rest of the body like the tail, wow.
