What changed: I toned down the white rock

Added after receiving feedback from the community.

Original Version

I toned down the white rock a bit, I think it helped.
Thanks Chris

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I had to dig in my archives to find a “Tidal Treasure”. A starfish, something you don’t see any more.
I took this photo at Golden Gardens Park in Seattle, the year was 2007, before a mysterious syndrome called sea star wasting disease killed off millions of starfish starting in 2013.

Specific Feedback

This image had a lot of sunlight noise in it and it took me awhile to clean it up.
I tried a tighter crop on it but I thought it needed a little more room, so ended up with what you see.
Any feedback is welcome.

Looks like it’s holding a beach ball. I like the purple sea stars the best. Although, both the orange and purple Ocher Sea Stars are the same species. the only suggestion I would make is to tone down the bright white area on the rock the sea star is holding. Cute photo.

Thank you Chris, I try toning down the “beach ball”

Alice: What a nice find and a fine capture. Your adjustment of the rock really makes a positive difference. I did a lot of beach combing on the Oregon coast as a kid and always saw a lot of starfish. On all of my subsequent visits I wasn’t really looking for them and didn’t notice one way or another their presence of lack thereof. On my next trip I’m going to pay more attention. Thanks for the memory jog and a fine image. >=))>

Thank you Bill.
The starfish are starting to come back along the Southern California coast, but I’m not sure they have made their way to Oregon yet. The day that I made this shot there were lots of orange and purple ones. Glad I could facilitate a good memory..
