About This Image

Straight forward bug on a flower. The Ragwort is important in the composition … sooo yellow and sooo bright in direct sun.
The shot is straight down from above.

I pre-visualised the shot as rectangle with 9 (3x3 zones) - left 6 zones with a flower in each, with bee on the middle flower and neg space on Right with a complementary background

Lost confidence with this extreme and final pic has fewer flowers in it, and not the 3x3 zone composition I visualised, with bee in central zone and left three zones empty space. Does the neg space on right balance the yellow??

Feedback Requested

Does the composition work with the bright colours and neg space on the right?

Is the viewer surprised and positively affected by the composition?

Can the viewer understand the composition, just by looking at the image. Does it come across as unusual and an artistic choice, with the viewer enjoying both the bright yellows and bee? ..or is the urge to crop tightly on the bee too great and the gorgeous yellows just bee background.

I suspect this doesn’t work as I visualised and I need to have a more regular pattern of flowers, perhaps place one in each zone by cloning and then viewer gets a surprise with the bee on one… might try that!

Huw: Bug on a flower works for me. I like your crop idea and the tension all the negative space plays in my mind. Perhaps a bit less of it but then you’re approaching convention and I’m not sure that’s your intent. Keep 'em coming and keep us thinking.>=))>

They look good. You can tame down the yellows a bit if so desired. Yellows tend to become very bright and reducing the saturation of yellows slightly can improve an already great image. I like the closer crops which shows off the bee better than the version that has more space on the left. Well done…Jim

Its all a nice experiment with composition and compositional balance with neg space
