I started off posting images from our May trip to Yosemite with the first ICM, “Elemental”. I think I’m the only one still chugging along, but now I’m going back through to where I started. This image was taken immediately after that first image and so will stick with the same title/theme. If I recall, and based on the image, this one here is a 2-image ICM combined in camera with multiple exposure with dark blending mode. The previous image was a straight, single frame ICM. Same tree, same scene, granite backdrop, different outcome.

The composition is so simple and yet so engaging. The strong vertical from the trunk placed 1/3 in from the left edge, the horizontally curving lines moving the eye out and the large green ‘leaves’ also having vertical lines in them just moves the eye everywhere to enjoy the whole scene. Its the simple to identify elements in the image that I think make it so nice. The only thing that seems disharmonious is the dark area along the bottom edge.
This is another lovely forest scene, Lon. I love the double exposure complexity and textures it creates here. Really nicely done. The colors and composition work for me. I can see cropping up from the bottom to eliminate the darker area that @Youssef_Ismail pointed out, but I can also see it functioning like a little mound of accumulated needles at the base of the tree. I can also see a tiny CW rotation that would make that area smaller and easier to crop out. I’ll be curious to see what others think of that area.
Either way, I’d call it a success and part of a nice series you could build on in your next trip.

I really like this image. Its simple, but unlike with some ICM, there’s no doubt what it is, and I think the simplicity works better because of that. I guess I agree with @Youssef_Ismail about the dark area, though it does not bother me too much. In an ideal world it would have been nice to have more leaves on the left hand side of the tree for balance, but this is the real world, not the AI one. Good work.
I don’t disagree Youssef, in fact I wonder about that dark area. The main reason I kept it was that I felt it gave the scene a sense of the ground; maybe a rock or fallen log. The part that doesn’t really work is the very straight line at the top of the dark gray - “disharmonious” is a good description. I have others, but each with their own issues…
Yup, I understand and again, agree. And yes, some sort of rotation, crop, tranformation I could easily modify/remove that area. In the end, probably not worth the time… Maybe another option rather the remove the area, might be to “improve” the area? hmmmm.
Very late on this one Lon but I’m glad you shared this one. It’s so simple and yet so creative. This looks like a color pencil drawing that a high school student would create in art class. Simplistic and yet to the point. The willow? tree draping it’s branches and leaves in front of the burnt pine tree branches is very engaging. almost misleading. It gets the viewer thinking is that a pine tree or a willow tree? It’s both. It’s whimsical. It’s fun and playful. It doesn’t look like a photograph. It really does look like pencil art. Exactly!! Superb, Lon!
