First Flap

I was watching this Red Tailed Hawk as it moved from tree to tree looking around the meadow. It sat at the top of a pine for quite some time before taking off. I caught the hawk during it’s first full wing flap and I liked the talon extension as it let go of the branch. The light caught the red tail just right.

Comments and critiques appreciated as I try to learn something from each post.

Hi Andrew. Nice to see you posting again. I do like the extension from the takeoff and the wing position. It looks like your focus may have stayed on the pine as it appears slightly sharper than the hawk (it happens to me 9 out of 10 times). Still a very cool image.

Hi Andrew, nice take off image. To my eyes, everything looks sharp in this image including the bird (especially when viewed full size). I like the dangling feet as you mention.

Nice flight shot. Seeing the talons like this is a nice bonus.

It is possible the pine is a bit sharper than the bird but still a very nice shot. And a tricky one to get at. I like the nice down wing position and you are right about the tail. Well done.
