I was wading through the shallows at first light on a warm summer morning and came across the light just grazing this starfish. Because it was largely a monochrome image anyway, and because I am in a self-imposed year of B&W, I thought it suited the B&W treatment.
What an elegant photo! I love the placement of the star fish and how only four of the five arms have light on them. B&W was a excellent choice for this as it reduces down to the most important elements and the light accentuates them perfectly. Well seen, captured, and processed.
This image is simplistic in design and I mean that in a good way. You have this starfish; being illuminated by this soft subtle light; situated among all these wonderful textures and patterns on the beach and nothing more. The B&W treatment works really well as does the placement of the starfish. I have no suggestions as I am really enjoying this.
This almost looks like a comet in the thumbnail with the dust trail extending down into the right hand bottom of the frame. Great idea to take this one and make it a black and white. It’s very minimalist with high contrast where you need and low contrast everywhere else. You could even make this darker since the highlights are so bright. Just a thought. What a terrific find on the beach.
This is terrific, Phil. I don’t think I would have figured out what it was if you hadn’t explained. The dark lines in the sand create a sort of frame around the starfish that’s very effective.
