About This Image
I was making my usual garden patrol this morning and while checking out our ginger plants I kept seeing this weird flashing being projected onto them. I turned around and saw this guy strutting his stuff and the flash was coming from the backlit dewlap. I tried to get some handheld shots and failed miserably to get the autofocus to behave properly but he was kind enough to let me go get the tripod and agreed to pose and show off a bit. I had to shoot a number of bursts to get the full extension and couldn’t get much more DOF without having to really bump the ISO but, hey, that’s what the delete button is for >=))>

Tried to get the dewlap and eye in the focal plane and let the rest go OOF. Too much blur?

Looks like a very difficult shot, Bill, but the dewlap is nice and sharp and that’s really what this image is all about. The face is close enough and the rest really doesn’t matter that much.
That’s an incredible shot, and right in your own yard. So nice of him to cooperate! The front of him look beautifully sharp, and the background is beautiful.
Bill, the dewlap wins the sweekstakes… It really stands out well with the backlit glow. I could wish that it’s edge was sharp, but that’s a minor nit. The dewlap is definitely eyecatching and the head is nicely sharp..any females around??
Congrats for the EP. A very challenging shot and you handled the extremes in shadows and highlights quite well. Pose with brightly lit dewlap and rim light is awesome…Jim
