The woods behind my house have many stumps and fallen trees. In this case, as I walked past this stump, the decaying wood caught my eye because it reminded me of the flow stone often seen in caves when the water runs constantly (rather than drips). Interestingly enough, only a small part on the inside of this stump looked like this, the rest was what I would call “normal” wood decay, lots of small rough bits.
Feedback Requested
I’ve kept this dark because it was dark and to preserve the mood of decay. In both cases this is a 20 shot stack to get full frame sharpness.
@Mark_Seaver I love this, the vertical version especially reminds me of stalactites (the ones that point down?) in a cave, with the stone flowing down them at geologic speeds.
I definitely see your reference with the “flowing stone” - or stone that has been smoothed or polished over the eons. This definitely comes through. Perhaps even more so for me, if the 2nd vertical version is rotated 90cw, I see creatures, if not river monsters or even fish with their mouths open waiting for the water to bring them their next meal! Mostly in the center bottom area. There’s a dark “eye”, protruding nose and a gaping mouth. Well, that’s what I see anyway.
Beyond that, also a great nature story of charred bark from old wild fires, tossed in with the consumption over time from bark beetles or any other kind of creature calling tree bark their home.
Mark: I think my default seeing is more commonly portrait vs landscape but in this one I do prefer the landscape orientation. The portrait feels cramped. The rendering of the textures and colors in both is fantastic. A great find and even better vision to make these images. >=))>
