Goldfield Mountains Fog + repost

@Youssef_Ismail , thank you for the review and suggestions. Hard to make that adjustment look natural, still using only LRC. Made some other changes also, slight change in crop, brigtened the exposure of the river, to try to hold the eye there longer. I do like this better, thank you.

Image Description

We don’t see fog over the Salt River in Arizona often, and when we do it does not linger long. Tried to show the flow of the fog over the river following the curve of the mountains . Overall a damp and gloomy morning, love the moisture!

Feedback Requests

Standard feedback. Does the composition work. Tried a 4x5 aspect, but didn’t like the flow as much. Selective exposure choices.

developed in LRC,

Marlin,

I like the delicateness of the fog over the river. It really accentuates the photograph well. The hot spot in the sky on the left edge keeps pulling my eye there. I would try to tame that down if possible.

Must have been wonderful to be there for such a gorgeous and unusual occurrence, and your photograph did it justice! The bright area is much better in the RP. Cloning would have been another fix but that would take PS. Starting with a TK linear profile might bring it down a bit and avoid the crop. Very nice in any case!

Diane, Thank you for the comments. This location is one of my favorites and it changes with all of the different influences we look for, weather, time of day etc. Can almost always find fog along the river, after a storm, when the temps are still low. In the summer, forget it. But then we get a great glow on the mountains. My plan is to venture into PS and TK profiles this next year. I also am looking into Nik Silver Effex for B&W images. Too many options!

Hi Marlin,
This is a lovely desert landscape. I quite like your understated processing of this scene as it looks very natural IMO. The subtle light mist above the river also makes for another wonderful element here. The rework with the small tweaks suggested by @Youssef_Ismail have made an already beautiful scene even better.

@Diane_Miller I had not heard of “Linear Profiles“, so I did a quick search.

I found an article written by Tony that explains what they are and how to use them in LR or Camera Raw. Note that the profiles are camera specific. They are free to download. see link below.

Linear Profile Repository” by Tony Kuyper.

I hope this helps someone.

Thank you , @Ed_Lowe. It is nice to have the helpful hints and coments this group provides! Looking forward to another cloudy stormy day over the river.

@Preston_Birdwell, thank you for doing the research. Will definitely help. Have not used any other “profiles” much, other that to look at what other settings would look like. Will definitely check them out.

@Diane_Miller , @Ed_Lowe , Tha k you both for the hints. I followed up on the video and articles and as my Grand daughter would say, “I deed it”. I now have the linear profile for my camera in LRC and PS. Thanks for finally making me open PS. Look out now!
