### Description

Something a bit different. I entered this in the “Altered Reality” category for our camera club’s monthly competition. I worked on the textures and background to try to give it a painterly effect.

### Specific Feedback

Any thoughts appreciated.

### Technical Details

Canon R5; 100-500 at 500 mm.

I really like the setting in this image, Allen. The oil paint filter gives the background the look of a stucco wall which is really cool. Somehow, the filter on the goldfinch itself doesn’t appeal to me as much and I wonder how it would look if you left the bird with normal processing and only applied the filter to the surroundings. Just my personal taste, of course, in something like this.

Thanks, Dennis. Actually, if I recall (it was a while back), I didn’t apply the filter to the bird. Probably more the result of a large crop and that the bird was some distance away.

And they do look pretty bedraggled in the late summer/early fall. I have some images from that time that are just plain ugly.

Allan,

The painting treatment you applied to the photo really adds an extra dimension to the image. I like what you have done. Hopefully it was accepted with interest in your club.
