Great Potoo Chick

During my March Costa Rica tour, our local guide got a call from his son about a Great Potoo family that was often visible nearby. When we arrived a couple days later, the chick had fledged, and was perched on a fence post right near the road. Even at a young age, the camouflage employed by this species is quite effective.

A nice look at the chick, Max. You are right, he sure is camouflaged nicely with the post he is setting on. I love his have closed eye, making me think he could care less that you are there, and about half asleep.
