We’ve had some discussions lately regarding chasing dragonflies vs sitting and waiting for them to return to a habitual perch. I noticed this little beauty perching on the tip of this leaf for several days in a row. I started shooting from a comfortable distance and gradually crept closer. She would often fly away but after just a minute or two would come right back with me just a touch closer. This is not cropped so even though I had a high mag rig set up I was able to get pretty close to a face only a mother might love. >=))>
Feedback Requested
Despite the small aperture DOF is pretty limited. I was not into stacking at the time and not sure i could pull it off even now. I’m OK with it, are you?

Oh, I am more than okay with it, Bill. Wonderful details in the eyes, and to me, it’s all about the eyes with a DF. I really like the composition too, with a side view of him. Well done!
Bill, I’ve done the same, slowly get closer to a favorite perch. You’ve got great details in the face and especially the eyes with all their facets. A stack, to get the closest wing sharp would likely create more of a distraction than a benefit… Your patience paid off very well here.
Ooh that’s a tight look at this lovely dragon. Look at those eyes!! I like the blue, too - could it be reflection of the sky? Either way it contrasts really nicely and calls our attention to those specific areas. I used the same technique to creep up on damsels yesterday. I think it’s the sudden movement they react to more than our looming presences.
Wow Bill that is a great photo! The detail of the eyes and face are amazing. Really shows how incredibly beautiful this dragonfly is. Really like the framing.
