Homage to Georgia O'Keefe - with Repost

REPOST

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

For about the last 10 years I haven’t been able to pursue my photography as I had in the past and my “good camera” collected dust. My only real outlet was my iPhone and one of the things I would do was take photos on my phone while I followed my wife around the garden center. This is one of a hundred or so images I saved over the years and just now started to go back through and process.

This is a substantial crop, representing only about 15-20% of the full frame image. The full size image was fairly sharp, but when I cropped it the image came out like this, and it reminded me a little of an O’Keeefe painting.

Specific Feedback

I like the softness and subtle pastel colors, but would like to hear your opinions on the image.

Technical Details

iPhone 12 Pro, the only thing I did to this image was a substantial crop, otherwise this was “as shot”.

I think the softness and subtle textures fit the subject very well, Scott. I like the framing with the bloom completely filling the frame. Very nicely done.

I like this as presented, Scott. Somehow the softness seems appropriate for a rose.

Scott: Frame filling fantastic and a classic rose portrait. The square crop works really well and I like how the color is rendered. Vey nicely done. >=))>

Hi Scott,
This is a wonderful homage to Georgia O’Keefe. The soft pink pastel color works really well as do the rotating edges of the petals. This is being super picky, but I could see adding just a touch of canvas on the right edge to give that one petal edge just a bit more room. I find this image to be very inviting and relaxing. Very nicely done.

Thank you everyone for your comments! Ed, great suggestion, a lot of the image was cropped out, so I just cropped a little less to get the petal off the edge. Thank you!

oooh very soft and swirly and the complete filling of the frame works well. The light appears to have little to no directionality and so we have to somewhat rely on our experience of roses to fill in that aspect. The fragrance almost comes through as well, but that really is memory filling gaps. The slight added room of the repost makes it better.
