Z8, Nikon 180-600m & 1.4Ext, f11, 840mm, 1/2000, -1.3EV, ISO 5600 and cropped and processed in DXO PhotoLab 9.
Peter, both of these images are great. I think I prefer the original with the egret’s head a little higher. Something about the angle hits me better. Both are great however, terrific detail in the feathers and the dark surroundings really contrasts well with the white.
Hi Peter. Great look at the egret. I tend to prefer the first one as well, as there is a bit more eye contact. The whites look excellent. I like the reflection. I’m ambivalent about the specular highlights; They tend to draw the eye and a pure black background might be interesting. On the other hand they do frame the egret.
Nicely caught and composed Peter. The egret stands out well from the dark water and I like the way the reflection is handled. To me the floating debris adds a sense of mood and mystery to the image and another point of interest. Nice details and exposure. Well done.

Wonderful capture of the Egret. I love the whites, and the bird stands out beautifully against the water.
They are both awesome, but I’m actually leaning on #2, for nitpicky reasons. There’s a bright spot in the reflection (which could easily be cloned of course. ) But also, I like the additional feather detail above the head in the second version. I would agree I like the head position a little bit better in the first.

Very nice job on the whites, Peter. I prefer the pose in the second image just a bit, but I certainly see why you included both as they work together with the title very well. A fine job on these.
