Does anybody know the species? It must be rather common, judging by the large number attracted to the ripe fruits.
Jaapv, I am usually the one needing an ID, so I am pleased that I can help someone else out. In my book on butterflies, it shows a very similar image to yours, and it is called a Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta). Their range is throughout North America, excelt northernmost Canada and Alaska.
Well, they are in Western Europe as well, apparently. Thanks for the ID. I got a confirmation on the Leica User Forum.
