This is another image from our Yosemite trip, taken on day 3 of the trip, and another day of thick, high clouds and rain. We spent a good portion of the day looking for comps up along the cliffs. This view was only visible for a moment, then disappeared quickly.

I have another version that’s a bit brighter using more of a high key approach, but I like this more moody version for the Silence theme. I would love to hear your opinion on how you feel about this image. Would you suggest any changes to better fit the theme? All comments are welcome.
I love this!! It always feels like some sort of magic to see a bit of land through openings in clouds. I think the tonalities are fine, with detail in the clouds/fog as well as the trees/land. And the dancing diagonal line is so interesting. I also love that the clouds enclose the subject on both sides. Well seen and presented!
I sometimes see scenes like this from the plane during fog season, but shooting through (usually not clean) curved plexiglass windows is not ideal.
I really like this image Steve, and I think it captures the mood perfectly. You have just enough detail in the clouds to keep them interesting.
The only think that hits me is I would love to see this with the line of trees just slightly lower in the frame. I would not do that at the expense of aspect ratio, but if you cropped this at all it might be worth looking at. That’s just my preferred thought though, the image is fantastic as is.
Effective image. Seems like a magical moment. Yosemite is great except for the crowds these days. There are so many great van points for photography. Looks like you got one of them. Nicely seen. And I would say you’re lucky to have the break when you did.
Funny Steve, I was going to submit a very similar image but decided to submit something different. I like the mood and foggy elements. Really draws your eyes to the revealing part of the image. It seems like there is a slight green tinge to the clouds. Maybe a slight color correction for the sky.
Steve, moody definitely describes this view, but it also feels quiet, like camping. I like the hint of trees against the left edge as it tells me that there’s more land out there somewhere…
Lovely image, Steve! It definitely gives the feeling of quiet. The trees being surrounded by the clouds feels like a blanket with the wavy line, and I like the light glow in the ULC. Thank you fir sharing it!

I love this image. The undulating ridgeline and quiet mood as fog/clouds shroud the trees. I can imagine the higher key version and also a more contrasty version. This is one of those images that works with various tonality treatments.

I liked this when I first saw it, and that continues. The large amount of relatively empty space does a nice job of letting the ridge stand out, and I love the horizontal line it creates.
Talk about being in the right time at the right place; this is serendipity at it’s best! This image has quite the mood with the strip of land sandwiched between the two layers of clouds. I also am liking the way the lower section of clouds pretty much mirrors the gentle undulation of the treeline. I quite like this as is, but I could also see this with a slight contrast and exposure boost. That is not a nit, just a personal preference. Beautifully done.
Wonderful! I think I might feel the same mood… since I was there. In fact I’ve been wondering if you or someone was going to post so I can keep mine on the hard drive. Actually, I like yours much better as the one I have the treeline extends to both sides… and I like that you’ve created somewhat of an “island” here of the ridge and trees in the foggy mist.
No nits or suggestions really. I think the luminosity is perfect and that you’ve allowed some definition in the clouds, especially up top with some brighter areas peaking through (which really give me the feeling that the clouds are breaking - which they did eventually).
I was initially going to suggest boosting the contrast in the treeline, but then I’m thinking that would reduce the feeling of that ridge breaking through the mist. This is working beautifully as presented!
