Joshua Tree Jackrabbit

Image(s)

Image Description

One of my happiest photo days of recent years was spent wandering Joshua Tree NP in search of animal tracks in snow. It doesn’t snow often in JTNP, but when it does, photographers are rewarded with wonderful contrast and detail. Here, I got a story along with the gentle drama.

Feedback Requests

Sharing mainly to respond to the challenge of fresh snow, which along with decorating the desert, creates a clean slate for wildlife tracks. Used a wide lens here; perhaps I should have got closer to the tracks to emphasize their role as subject.

Pertinent Technical Details

14MM, ISO 200, F10, 1 800th. Olympus EM1.

I think the wide angle worked fine, James. The tracks aid and abet the leading line and they’re more than clear and large enough to at least be a subtext of the image.

You’ve got an excellent set of tracks here, James. Since the pull my eyes into the scene from the bottom, I think they balance well with the rocks. The scene is also nicely inviting with the clear sky even as it feels chilly. In the large view, I see a slight halo along the skyline that I suspect relates to how much clarity you added.

Thanks Mark – will revisit the edit.
