**Critique Style:** Standard

The photographer is looking for thoughtful feedback on the image as a whole, especially around the areas noted below.

**Feedback Focus:** Artistic + Technical

### About This Image

This was taken this morning early. I’ve been working on it today to process it properly. This is clearly a juvenile. I think its parents have spending some time at my feeders. Coaxing it into the proper perch wasn’t easy. These guys are Skittish!

I like the back view of this youngster, David. Quite a nice head turn as well. I love the perch where it has the lichen on it. That section really pops. The background is well blurred but a little bit busy with the light greens and the dark greens converging right where the birds head is. I suppose you could brighten the dark green a smidgen or darken the light green a smidgen but honestly, I don’t know how much that’s going to help. Wonderful image of a beautiful Juvi Flicker.
I did a real quick down and dirty job on the background. See what you think. I both lightened the dark spots and darkened the lighter spots selectively only in LR with a brush tool. YMMV. :))))

Very nice head turn and one of your usual awesome perches, David. I like the back view as well. While I didn’t particularly mind the greens, I must admit that I prefer the look of the image with the modifications that @David_Haynes made. There appears to be a bit of lack of fine detail in the feathers, particularly the head, which surprises me considering the lovely detail in the perch. I don’t know if the focus was off somehow or if you processed the bird differently from the rest of the image.

A fine look at what is usually a pretty skittish species.

Thanks for looking at this David. I like to change as you made. I was sort of looking at doing something like that but never got around to it. Thanks again for your time.

Lovely image David. Love the over the shoulder look and the curvy perch is quite nice. David H’s version looks like a subtle improvement to me. As Dennis states, critical focus seems to be on the primary feathers rather than the head but I think it is still sharp enough. Nice catch.
