Lava Layers

Here’s an alternative take on layers, from 2010, showing off the multitude of basaltic lava layers that built up the Hawaiian island of Oahu.

Mark, lots of layering here from the lava events. These are the type of structures that immediately bring out the thoughts on the history of what it took to obtain this amount of layering. Just how many lava flows over time is my point.
I’m really into the view of the composition overall. The frame filling landmass and the curvature in the scene works nicely.
The lava shelf areas around this point and the ocean water sure seems very pristine from this POV…:+1:

Mark,

Layers in more ways than one! Maybe they’re both obvious, but there’s the geologic layers created over time. But then there’s the visual layers moving front to back of the numerous outcropping of the volcanic rock; receding layers.

I like the semi-isolated comp as well.

Layers in both directions here, Mark. Superb detail in the strata.
