Light Rail in Portland

I used to feel comfortable going into downtown Portland early morning before dawn to photograph the streets, the lights, and the light rail system. Haven’t been down there in several years due to safety reasons–I was threatened several times and almost robbed of my gear once. Still, I have lots of non nature images that I’ll start to share. This is of a light rail train stop. I took a longish exposure to get the train blurred, but the background train stop was not defined enough. So I took another shot without the train and blended them together. This was the result.

Is this a composite: Yes
I’ll say this is a composite because of the two images. I blended them in Photoshop. Not sure which blending mode I used…

A very dynamic composition. The light here is wonderful and the idea of shooting and blending in one of the platform worked so well.

How sad that people can’t be safe in so many places.

A very cool effect. It’s almost like a ghost train or something. Too bad about the safety issues. People suck sometimes. But this works for me. It reminds me of certain 1980s album or book covers.

This gives Portland a nice shine and sheen. Sadly, different from the tarnished image of late. I grew up in Portland.
