Manatee cow and calf

While roaming the St. Johns river in Florida in Mike Ramy’s boat, we came across the Manatee cow and her calf. She was munching on the Marsh Pennywort, which is the low growing plant floating on the water near the middle of the picture. The clear water in this quiet side creek let us see both animals decently even when they were underwater. (5D3, 24-105 @ 58, 1/125 s, f/8, iso 800 and polarizer)

What a wonderful privilege. I’ve never seen manatees (tough for them up in Wisconsin!), and someday I’d love to. Thanks for sharing. The little one does indeed seem little next to mom.

Beautiful capture looks peaceful !
You may tone down green plants. I believe these are waves from your boat on the RHS, which are going against the river flow.

What a fun experience that must have been, Mark! Did they hang around quite a while? My only nit is the green expanse on the right is a bit bright on my screen.
