About This Image
We had light rain and I wanted to capture some of the drops on flowers. I used a very large crop and did the lower third so keep the drops on the petals. I liked the contrasted colors and it looks like the flower is looking up in hope of more. Could I make this more artistic somehow. I did take multiple shots but, liked the position of the central part of the flower.

Does this evoke any emotion or is there something that I can do to improve that effect?

Charlie: All things considered I’m still a single capture guy so I like your DOF choices and the overall comp. Placement and sharpness of the flower center is spot on. A very nicely crafted image indeed. >=))>

I got the impression that you were hoping for: a portrait facing up to the left hoping for more refreshment. At first I considered whether cropping off some of the right side might improve it. We often think a portrait needs to be looking into or toward space, not away from it, but I think this flower’s face is just surrounded by so much “luxurious hair” that the crop works well.
Absolutely lovely subject and capture, with beautiful colors and details! And of course the water droplets are a wonderful feature!! I love the DOF with the back petal slightly soft. My only suggestion would be that the bit of detail in the UL corner is a bit distracting and could be cloned out or its contrast reduced, but it is clearly a natural part of an adjacent flower and I can’t fault it’s being there.
What gorgeous color! The focus of the center then leading to a softer petal does give it that artistic flair. Can’t beat water droplets…and it’s real rain, not a spray bottle!!:o)
Delight! It feels fresh and bountiful and the droplets bring to mind renewal and a need met. You’ve placed the center of the flower perfectly, but I have to agree with Diane about the ULC as my eye strayed there more than I think you might want. Shifting slightly to remove that from the frame, or, if that didn’t work well, darkening or cloning out the area might solve the issue. Excellent detail and the light is sublime.
Love the colors, composition and sharpness of the flower center, but I’m gonna be a contrarian and disagree with the others about the dof. Normally I would agree with the softness of the bg petal, but I feel the water drops are so large, they are crying out for more sharpness. Just mho of course and it seems I’m in the minority.
Beautiful image Charlie. I like the way you composed this and the crop choice you made. The point of focus is dead on and immediately draws the eye. The eye-popping colors are just additional icing on the cake. Well done all around.
The darker area in the LRC draws my eye a tad, but I’m not sure you can do much with it. It’s great as is anyway.
