Description
I can rarely get close enough to deer and when I do they are usually in bad light, but I got lucky a few days ago. I wasn’t as close as it might look – I was uphill from him and mostly hidden – lucky I even saw him. This is also a cleaner specimen – they can be pretty bedraggled and scarred, and some have malformed antlers. I cropped quite a bit as he was standing in unattractive tall grass.
Diane, he’s a lovely fellow in a beautiful setting (thanks in part to your editing !). The light, which shows off his face, ears, & antlers well, is perfect. Wonderful image!

Technical Details
Minor global tonal tweaks in LR, denoised and cropped to 22% of the full frame. In PS, some cloning of the grass and removed a fly on his nose.
This is gorgeous Diane. Beautiful looking, groomed very nicely for you too, which as you point out it probably a bit rare.
I must admit and hope this doesn’t ruin it for you… but I initially thought, “How cute!” What a pretty specimen. Maybe it’s the “Rudolph” thougth that might be dissappointing. Such a great image!
I like the textures present especially with the antlers in velvet. The comp is very nice and the details in the BG are nicely muted and do not distract from the subject. Well done…Jim
