What changed: I added a bit to the RS so the leaves are not off the frame. My skills in PS are not great, I know how to add canvas but I don’t know how to clone the image with the additional canvas, so this isn’t a perfect add on.

I wasn’t sure if I should put this Quiver Tree image under the Abstract category or Landscape. I’ve edited it as though it were an abstract which is my favorite thing to do, but it is still clearly a Quiver Tree.

I personally love this image so maybe I shouldn’t put it up for critique, but at the same time I am interested in your feedback.
Alice, it’s an intriguing view. It feels highly manipulated to me but it’s also nicely attractive and interesting. The touches of red within the light blues work well and gives a reason to explore more. I could wish to see the ends of the leaves on the right, but do like how it’s centered in the frame. BTW, you can use more that one tag, so adding abstract is still possible and it’s worth noting that years ago, NPN included a “photoart” gallery, where this would have been a fine entry.
I find this image to be very interesting and engaging for pretty much the same reasons @Mark_Seaver already mentioned. Please do not be shy about putting an image that you love out for critique, as I and many others on NPN enjoy viewing the end result of the passion that drives other photographers to create their art. I could see a little more canvas on the right so as not to clip off the two leaves or branches? If you do not mind sharing what was your process to arrive with the end result? Very nicely done.
Hi Ed, thank you for your encouragement to critique my images, even when I love them as is. The thing is I always learn something when I do share. Until Mark mentioned the leaves on the RS, I hadn’t even noticed…yikes. Also when I looked at the original image it had not been cropped so I had no extra room. I added some canvas to the RS in photoshop but I don’t know how to clone the image with the add on. I fudged with the removal tool. I also looked at my edit history to remember what I had done to the image and I probably finished it in Nik or Topaz and I couldn’t retrace my editing steps. I often get too involved while editing and fail to record what I’m doing. I love abstracts and anything is fair game to me.
As an artwork and abstract I love it - nicely high key and like a line drawing and watercolour in others.
Its quite manipulated from reality but I dont mind that as its got great impact and would grace a gallery wall. The 3rd revision is fantastic - must try something similar.

Alice, the revision is just perfect. I love the high key artistic nature of this shot. It’s very graphic looking. Almost like colored chalk or pencil art. I also really love the stem with the light black and the red. That section looks like a watercolor painting. Other than adding that canvas to the right side I have nothing else to offer you as a nit. Well done.
I was camping for a few days and missed this one. I love the color palette. It gives the whole image a solarized effect with a high key tonality. To me, it’s very engaging. I like the lines of the tree, the plumes of flowers or leaves and the way the white bark blends with the background.
I often wonder about categories: landscape? intimate? flora? abstract? So many variables. The revision fixes my only suggestion/nit. I can also imagine going even higher key if that appeals to you, but I like it as is.
This reminds me of a detailed colored pencil illustration. With art, you have an unlimited license to use the resources available to you to make something unique and personal. This one fits the bill perfectly. The Repost is good enough for me and like this version as presented. Awesome…Jim
