New England Autumn 1

Location: Coxsackie, NY
Equipment: iPhone 8

Other than the blown highlights in the clouds, I was pretty amazed with this file from my iPhone 8. I only wish I had some real camera gear with me!

Other than pulling down the highlights and a slight crop off the bottom, this file is just as it came off the phone. I’m betting someone here would know how to fix up those blown highlights.

Thanks for taking a look and offering any processing tips!

Jim, thanks for sharing this very impressive take with the iPhone. The wonderful colors, detail and depth to the scene are excellent.
An ex-coworker of mine uses only his iPhone these days and has all kinds of gadgets for it. Special mounts, lenses, and whatnot.

Those new iphone’s are amazing. I shot some this summer and was really impressed. They produce really contrasty images, which you don’t see until you compare them to a DSLR. But they look great straight out of the camera. Always rich colors and the highlights get reduced. It’s hard to get clipped highlights actually.

That one small red leaf draws attention to it.

Welcome to NPN and real nice first post! Beautiful colorful fall scene. That is impressive with a phone. Real nice coverage of the dynamic range. No suggestions here.

Wow, fantastic color in this, Jim. Lovely scene and wonderful composition. iPhone 8, huh? Why did I buy a D810???

Thank-you Harley! I had heard of this “NPN” place before and it seems strangely familiar. Maybe it was a past life or something…

Thanks to all for taking a look! The conditions that day were perfect for taking a classic New England autumn scene photo. The files from the iPhone 8 are really pretty amazing. Of course I always have it with me so when I spot a scene like this, its just a matter of whipping-it-out and taking the shot.

I’ve really turned into a lazy nature photographer only carrying gear that fits comfortably in a pocket.

This is beautiful light Jim, and I love your composition, it creates a lot of depth. It also makes me wonder why I have spent thousands on camera gear, i’m going about it all wrong

My only nitpick is that Coxsackie, NY is not part of New England  Other than that this image is perfect !!!

Great to see a post from you Jim and stopping by the re-incarnated NPN. A beautiful, pastoral autumn image. Great drama in the sky to add a dynamic element and honestly not bothered by any apparent blown highlights. (Creative cloning should do the trick - search back on the old NPN for “Harley’s cloning technique” or something like that)

Hope to see more!
