About This Image

This was taken about two years ago. Flickers are skittish and I need to be absolutely ready for them or they will fly away.

This year they have learned where the feeders are and they don’t land on my perch set up. Frustrating but eventually I will succeed.

Beautiful composition , lovely light, love the moss on the branch - no immediate suggestions for improvement .
Bird is very sharp - great capture.

A fine image David. Love the intimate look with that red eye and the great view of the front feather pattern. What a beauty. I like the perch too with all the lichen. Complimentary background. Very nice image.

Lovely subject, pose and light with a gorgeous perch! I’ve never seen them near our feeders. What goodies attract them?

I’m jealous because I can’t get closer than 1/4 mile from these things! And we have a male who has camped on our deck for the last 3-4 winters! I put up a box for him and he uses it, and last winter I think he had a girlfriend and I’m pretty sure she slept in the box while he camped out nearby. I haven’t wanted to disturb them enough to find out. They seem to move away for breeding season, though, and show up again in early winter.

What a terrific pose offering up all of the colors, the head turn, the light hitting the face and the shadows hitting the rest of the bird. I absolutely love that perch. Incredible. It’s complimented by the OOF background which looks great. I have no suggestions for improvement.

I like this comp, even with the strong shadows present. Colors are great and like the red showing on the tail. It is nice to have captured the eye in this light. You might try a small dollup of peanut butter on a branch which may help them find and use the perch. I am envious of those lichens and am glad that they have been included in the image. Wonderful shot…Jim
