This is a nice looking image and a species I haven’t personally seen before. Makes sense since it grows in the western US (not the southeast). I like your composition and the simplicity of the image. You show off the colors of the petals very well. I do wonder what a slightly tighter crop would look like but that may not be doable (I saw the lens you used to capture it).

@Jonathan_Cothron , put a 2X on that lens and you still have 3 ft MFD. You have a 1000mm almost-macro, with 0.66x magnification.
Allen, the colors and details in the flower stand out beautifully against that greenish background. Having all of the flowers sharp and slightly off center adds to the attraction.

Very nice capture of an interesting plant. I too like the non central positioning of the plant in the frame. The BG complements the flower colours very nicely, and is pleasantly diffuse.
I notice the stroke you have put round the side is the same purple as the flower - I do this myself quite often too - but in this case I find it pulls the eye away from the plant . If you agree maybe a slightly darker shade?

I have seen advice that the best color for a stroke is to use a secondary color from the subject. In this case I think a good choice might be the soft gold in the bottom bud. I like to keep a slightly wider margin outside the stroke, as well, as it feels more relaxed.
What a little beauty! I love the way you’ve isolated the blossoms and how they are all at differing stages. I might have created more space between the bottom flower and the stem, but that’s just me being picky. Agree that the stroke is a little bright, but it is in the palette range so isn’t too out of place. The crop and placement in the frame works well for me. I like this one a lot.
Wow what a beauty, the background really shows off the main focal point. I like the off set framing of the flower. I’ve never used a stroke along the edge of a photo, I may need to give it a try.

A beautiful flower that I don’t believe I’ve encountered, Allen. I’m going to have to look this one up. I agree with others that your framing is excellent. An excellent discussion on the “stroke” in the comments.
