### Description

The Orange-crowned Warblers were out in force yesterday and I was able to snag a couple of shots. I like the background in the second one-it’s straight out of camera and is a grassy meadow on a slope about a hundred yards away.

### Specific Feedback

Any thoughts appreciated.

### Technical Details

Canon R5; 100-500 at 500 mm; 1/1000 at f7.1, +1/3 EV; ISO 1600/400

Nice catches Allen. I like the pose in each shot with the bird angled towards us in the first image and the over the shoulder look in the second. I like the compositions of each even though the bright part of the background in the first image tends to draw my eye. If you have the pixels, I’m wondering about a crop from the bottom in the first shot to lessen that part of the background. Tough call as I do like the branch as shown there. Nice work.

Allen, both views show off the bird well. I like the first shot because it shows more environment and it has that nicely mottled background. Yes a bit of burning-in on the brightest bits in the background would reduce their impact.

Both images are excellent, Allen. I won’t try to pick a favorite as they both work well for me.

Both are lovely!! I prefer the very interesting but still soft BG in the first, and the perch is so nice. It isn’t the lighter area that bothers me, but rather how defined its edges are. Same for the vertical edge on the left. I tackle issues like that with a ~50% clone brush, just blurring the most-defined edges a bit. Helps to select subject and inverse. Don’t have to get everything – just break up the visual pattern.

The second one could work for me with some crop from the bottom and right to make the bird a bit larger. Much as I love funky old wood, the perch competes with the bird a bit for my tastes.

Thanks @Allen_Sparks , @Mark_Seaver , @Dennis_Plank , and @Diane_Miller for your comments and suggestions. I’ve reposted based on them; cropping the second one and trying to tame the background on the first.

I enjoyed the first image quite a bit and not sure if you did much on the repost. At least that I noticed. The second image is certainly has more of an impact with the crop. Put both images are really quite pleasing.

I liked these to start with, Allen, but I do think the reposts are an improvement in both cases.
