About This Image
We were tracking mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and came upon a family deep up in the forest. This female appeared to have wandered a bit from the group and was off by herself. She seemed to be quite contemplative and pensive as she gazed off into the forest.

Timothy, it’s amazing that you got such a shot at all. It must have been amazing to be there.
My only critique-y thought is that nothing matters here except the gorilla. I don’t know what kind of resolution you’re working with but I could see cropping out some of the bottom and some of the top so that the gorilla occupies more of the frame. I could also see darkening some of the bright areas. But it’s a cool shot even if you don’t change anything.
Its a beautiful photograph and you really did a great job in capturing the animal. The eyes appear super sharp and you got a wonderful pose.
A suggestion would be to crop the image reducing some of the foliage and bringing the animal center stage. One more thing you may try is to reduce some of the saturation of the green foliage - again, making the animal the focus.
Wow! So many variations of the crop. And, all of them good. I’m leaning toward the horizontal crop…just because it has a bit more breathing space. I might be tempted to even add a bit more breathing space on the top. His glance is looking upward and maybe give him something to look into?
You can’t go wrong with what ever crop you choose.
