We did an island hopping trip to Hawaii for our anniversary in November 2022. Maui was our last stop and we arrived mid morning to rain and dull skies. We had about three or four hours to kill before checking into our B&B so I decided to do a scouting trip to the Haleakala crater. I had a reservation for the sunrise the next day but I kind of wanted to eyeball the place ahead of time. Plus at that time I was recovering from a hip replacement that was healing slowly so I needed to find out which vantage points would be accessible for me. When we arrived the crater was pretty much filled with clouds but they started to break up and we got treated to several scenes like this as the crater details were revealed. I looked at the scouting images as a very nice bonus as the next morning proved to be one of those highly touted Haleakala sunrises. >=))>

Too much fog on the right side or does that work for you?

This is gorgeous!! I LOVE the fog on the right!! It tells me what is going on in the rest and I would be tempted to bring out more in the main part of the image if I could.
Hi Bill,
I am loving this! The color palette is gorgeous and the fog has imparted this wonderful ethereal mood to this image. In answer to your question the fog on the right side is no problem and works just fine for my tastes. I find this to be a relaxing soothing scene that I find very inviting. Beautifully done. How did you enjoy Hawaii?
Ed: Thanks for asking. We had a pretty good time although my mobility was pretty severely hampered. I had my first hip replacement in 2008 and the second in 2018. Took me less than two weeks on each occasion to be fully functional. But the first surgery was done with a pure titanium implant which eventually leached into the surrounding bone and started causing a lot of pain. It had to be replaced but also required some bone grafting and it took a LOT longer to heal. We had planned the trip months before assuming my recovery would be short but alas it was not to be. I would love to go back and be able to better explore, especially at Haleakala.
If I was to go back I would probably limit our stays to Maui and Kauai. We did the big island and enjoyed Kilauea and the south shore but Oahu was great for the stuff around Pearl Harbor and not all that much else. We went in November and the weather was very nice and off season prices were nice too. >=))>
This is wonderful Bill! I too love the fog on the right. It almost imparts a sense of motion; in my mind I feel the fog sweeping across the scene from right to left. I also like @Diane_Miller’s ide of accentuating some of the fog in other areas as well.
I really like how the layers stack up, yet are broken, and each layer has wonderful interest on its own.
Regardless, this is a real winner Bill, nicely done.
Bill, the range of colors and luminosities here is excellent. There’s some “wild” abstraction going on in distant land in the upper left corner that only shows in the large view. I would slightly burn-in the brightest fog along the right edge, just to give more attention to the rest of the view.
