This is another image from the trail to Rohrbaugh Cliffs in Dolly Sods, West Virginia. The entire trail is pretty much nothing but roots, rocks and wet leaves.
I was struck (both literally and figuratively) by the exposed root system of this tree.

I did a fairly heavy vignette on this image to focus attention on the roots. Too much?
Pertinent Technical Details
Sony A7riv with a Tamron 20-40 lens at 28 mm and f/9. Basic processing in Lightroom and a radial gradient for the vignette.
Will, really nice image. I really like the contrast of the green moss and brown leaves, and the flow of the roots. I think you could even out the vignette a bit by opening up the bottom part and letting the roots flow more. Although I would leave the both LCs darker. May have to dull the shine on the big root down the center. Also, consider darkening the brighter lichen on the rocks just left of center. Might bring the attention back to the mossy roots. Can only imagine the fun trying to walk on these wet roots if the whole trail is like this.
Will, I like how the variety of greens are contrasted by the few fallen leaves and the dark maze of roots. I too would back off on the vignette, especially at the top, where the dark “oval” of green just left of center seems out of place.
Hi Will,
It looks as though you had the perfect conditions for this image as the rain has made the greens of those rhodie leaves pop as well as the mosses surrounding the roots. I particularly like the way the roots draw me into this lush woodland scene. For my personal tastes I would also be inclined to back off the vignette just a touch. Did you happen to take any closer images of just the roots as I think there is a comp in there as well. Very nicely done. I hope you have some more images from your trip to share.
