About This Image

Over the past few days we have had some interesting cloud formations and a nice sunset or two. Taken with my drone to get above the trees for an unobstructed view. >=))>

Enough FG? Image worthy scene or just meh?

Bill, I especially like the cloud streaks (mare’s tails) in the top 2/3rds. To me, those are emphasized in the horizontal view. It is a lovely sunset. The strip os land at the bottom feels right. You’ve handled the sun well. Does the drone camera shoot RAW?

Yes it does. I’ve been pretty impressed with the image quality from this little guy. >=))>

That sky is something else and “Sky Writing” is a very fitting title! I like the uniqueness of having the sun and foreground so low in the image that I feel anchors the sky without taking away from it. I prefer the horizontal image which I feel captures the vastness of the sky and clouds more clearly vs the portrait version.

Nicely done, Bill. I don’t have a preference between the horizontal and the vertical variations on the scene. I did play with a scroll crop on the vertical one, and I think I like it better at a 5x7 or something.

In both, the land is thin enough in the frame of each to remind us that it’s not the point. Sometimes doing that makes the viewer look elsewhere. It’s just enough to ground the image without getting any but the most perfunctory attention.

Thanks for sharing these and reminding me that the drone has many uses, not just downward aerial photography.

Bill,

What a glorious sunset! Wonderful clouds and beautiful color gradations. A beautifully rendered sunset.

I don’t know if you or anyone else will agree with this observation, but I’ll mention anyway. To me, the horizontal presentation with the sliver or darkness anchoring the image, works pleasingly. The “skyscape” is anchored. Could there be a smidge more at the bottom? sure. Can you make the edge to where the sun is on the edge? No.

The observation that doesn’t work for me is the vertical frame. Same amount of darkness at the bottom. And there’s a nice vertical presentation that works. However, IMHO (only) having the dark strip on the bottom in the vertical format… simply doesn’t work (FOR ME.) I’ll go as far as to say it’s wrong! I dunno, it just doesn’t work. Sunset/Sunrises, are pastoral, peaceful… “day’s end”, comtemplative thinking… The vertical not so much. Sorry Bill. H = gorgeous. V= not so much

Can we still be friends?

Hi Bill,

Both versions are quite beautiful, but I am really loving the landscape format as the sky has this wonderful expanse to it with all of those clouds. I also quite like the color gradation from warm tones to cooler ones as the viewer travels upward in the sky. Normally I would like a touch more landscape at the bottom, but I like your choice not to include any more of the buildings. Beautifully done.

:face_with_steam_from_nose:not very likely!!! Well, on second thought maybe I’ll forgive you this one time. But, your penance will be a guided tour of Lon’s Wall when we meet in November. Brutal honesty ALWAYS appreciated. >=))>

Lovely images Bill - particularly the landscape format one.

Amazing shot by a drone - something I have yet to try.

Amazing
