Description

Fall comes late to our part of Texas so one of our maple trees is still in leaf although more are fading and falling every day. Most years the leaves on this tree turn yellow but everything so far has been pretty drab although one of the things that attracted my attention was the subtle pastel shading. I also liked the juxtaposition of the dying leaf on the vibrant Swiss Cheese plant leaf. It’s somewhat ironic that if we have a hard freeze the Swiss Cheese may not survive while the maple will surely leaf again in the Spring.>=))>

Specific Feedback

Light was filtering through the trees with a lot of shadow and contrast so I did a quick 5 shot HDR burst. Still too harsh?

Great idea on the HDR – it looks completely natural and the subtle colors are wonderful. I’m not familiar with the Swiss Cheese plant but it looks like it could yield some fascinating images all by itself! I love the composition you chose for its leaf.

A very different floral image and one that I love, Bill. I think the strong shadow of the upper leaf really makes this image. Brilliant work!

Good contrast both in the different states of the leaf and in the light - I think it is a tiny bit harsh, but it works to emphasize the first contrast. I like the slight tinge of green still present in the dead leaf. Our dead leaves are buried under 8 or 10 inches of snow - kind of a lot for December, but a white Christmas is always welcome.
