Image Description

This was shot through a missing door with a no trespassing sign in the town of Austin, Nevada. This is an old mining town with broken down homes, some of which are occupied by towns people. Come to think of it I didn’t see a modern home the entire time I was there. It’s a great place to explore. It’s sort of like an inhabited Bodie.

Specific Feedback

Should there be greater contrast here? I tried it and didn’t like it for some reason.

I wouldn’t say either attracted or revulsed, but it does pique my curiosity, Igor. I start looking to figure out what all that stuff might be and what the situation is. It looks like an old shed that had all kinds of stuff thrown in and suffered a leaky roof or some other kind of water ingress, but it’s really hard to tell. At one point in my life, I was a television repairman and some of the houses I went to (or the associated outbuildings) resembled this.

I find myself wishing for more light in the darker areas so I can identify what’s there.

Interesting Composition. I relate to this image. I have seen this vibe before. I would lighten it some. Diane instructed me to use Highlight and Shadow Faders in PS. Start there. Very Cool Find !!!

I don’t know. I have to be with this a bit longer. I printed it today along with some other images. While I still like it I find that the strongest images are simpler than this. I really like the lighting in this image. I believe that was the attraction for me. I was trying to make a complex subject unified somehow and I think I’ve accomplished that. The idea was to explore all those rumpled books and rags with interest. But is that satisfyng in itself? As an image of just forms it’s not the best I’ve done recently. Who knows, maybe tomorrow I’ll feel completely different. Maybe it’s best to not print widely different images at the same time.

But on a certain level this image widely appeals to me.
