About This Image
This was taken last March at Basket Slough NWR, west of Salem, Oregon. Thousands of geese make Basket Slough their winter home and this field ( one of many) was alive with the sounds of hundreds of geese. This lone Snow Goose was easy to spot amongst the Cackling Geese.
A fun image, Allen. It sure does stand out. My wife and I were just discussing the relative migration patterns this morning when she thought she heard some geese going over. It’s interesting to see the one among so many others.
Great moment and capture Allen. Aside from the many great advertisement angles that have been mentioned, the image raises other thoughts… Am I adopted? Did I run away? Am I accepted?, or Do I not belong? Who knows what goes on in the animal kingdom (although I think it’s well documented many species will adopt others…)
The important part of the story is in focus and so I don’t mind the fall off; Pretty hard to find a clean line for cropping. Removing the one in the UR leaves a bit of empty space… but still might be an option to consider.
Allen, this image reminds me the penguin from Art Wolfe, with more.
In wildlife it’s never easy to have everything perfect in the frame. Maybe moving a bit on the left may have been better but the white geese may have been hidden.
I like your image as it is: your subject is pin sharp, well positionned in the middle of others: this is what is matter the most. I’m still asking myself what it does in the middle of the others: lost? Are they other white outside the frame?
