A snail on the sandy bank of the Wisconsin river - I didn’t notice the color change that I think the slime made. It looks a bit like a strange shadow.
Not sure what kind of snail it is (probably an invasive Chinese Mystery snail), but maybe not. I haven’t had the opportunity to photograph many aquatic snails, so when I found this one I had a go.

How’s the framing and processing? There’s a lot of ways to go with a subject like this so ideas are welcome. Also if I run across more in future, how else to shoot one? No fast shutter speed needed!
Processing software: Lightroom
Major adjustments: global sliders in basic panel to manage dynamic range, wb adjustment, texture, clarity & sharpening. Just basics.

Great idea for the topic. The processing is fine, and I really like the depth of focus. Perhaps more space on the left and less on the right. If possible, could you take a shot directly towards the front of the snail? Could be an interesting perspective. Might that result in you getting wet?
Thanks @Jim_Gavin - it might mean I have to get out, but I do from time-to-time and so usually it’s no big deal, especially on a sandbar like this one, although the water was moving, I could get the boat solidly aground without a problem. I’ll have to try for more angles if I see any above the waterline again.
Kris: Nice find and I like your composition and processing choices. Hard to tell how big this guy is and how far away you were. About the only thing that might make this better for me would be a tighter crop/larger in the frame image. I remain crazy jealous of your kayaking opportunities. Keep ‘em coming. >=))>
I think the framing here is just fine. Probably a good idea to not center the subject, and there is not too much negative space so it doesn’t get lost in the frame. This is such a cool minimalist image-nothing but the snail, slime and sand. Great job Krisitn.
Slimy - but sharp. I love the two oof bands of sand fore and aft. They frame the snail beautifully. Cropping might reduce this effect, so for me, excellent as is.
Thanks @Bill_Fach , @Ted_Forman & @Mike_Friel snails are fun and I hope to see more. We have various mussels in the sand by the dock, but I haven’t really tried anything with them other than scooping them up to see their pretty shells and putting them back. I may try tightening this up, but I kind of like the space around it because I imagine how long it would take it to move through.
Am kayaking today so hope to come back with something worthy of our challenge this week.
