Strawberries 1, Asphalt 0

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I had stopped at an overlook on the Olympic Peninsula coast and happened to look down and see this split in the edge of the asphalt just filled with greenery.

Specific Feedback

Is the bit of debris I left in too much of a distraction? Brightness of asphalt versus brightness of the leaves?

Technical Details

Sony A7Rv, FE 70-200 f/4 macro @ 70 mm, handheld, f/22, i/40, iso 2500. Processed in DxO PureRaw 5, LR & PS CC. Cropped slightly to 9353x6097. Small microcontrast enhancement of the strawberry leaves and brought up the greens a bit.

Dennis, well this is a bit odd or unique one if you will. The only thought for change might be a slight crop from the top. I think it helps bring more focus toward the main crack and plant growth there. Just a thought…

Nicely seen! I love these kind of unexpected “nature finding a way” images. I didn’t even really pay attention to the debris, it looks natural and didn’t distract. My first impression of the asphalt was it was too bright, but I think it needs to be as presented to get the contrast with the darker leaves. You also get to see the detail and texture in the asphalt with it lighter, which also contrast with the leaves, so I wouldn’t change it. I like the composition as well with the placement of the crack in the image. Well done!
