Striped Hermit Crab

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Taken on Nokomis Beach, Florida, during one of my early morning beach walks.
I liked the eye contact and symmetrical claw stance, which gives it a surprising amount of personality – almost a portrait.

Specific Feedback

I wanted to include the whiskers, but that is not the most pleasing composition. In the end, I did include them…

Oh, you have to have the whiskers. What a great find. Wish I could see something like that. Detail on the crab is good, but maybe brightening it up a little would bring them out more and draw more focus on the crab. It looks like there is a bit of noise in the image. Have you tried to use denoise on it?

Nicely captured details in the hermit crab. I would try to remove some of the cyan cast to the entire image and do a curves adjustment to bring up the contrast as the crab needs to pop out ogf the shadows from the shell. A very nice capture…Jim

Pieter: Surely a face only a mother could love. And I agree with @Chris_Baird regarding the whiskers. Opening the shadows on the crab is about the only thing that would help this but it works for me as is. Nice find and a fine POV and capture. >=))>
