Sunny Side Up

4 Shot Stack

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Apple IDs these as a leopard plant although I have no clue whether they are right or not. The leaves are large and shaped like a tractor seat so that’s what Chrissy calls them. This is the first time they have flowered and this was the first flower to open completely. We have a frost coming tonight so I hope they survive since there are a lot of unopened buds. >=))>

Specific Feedback

I’m partial to the single shot because I like the focus fall off from flower to buds but like the stack as well. Just uses four shots with focus on each subject. The open flower is a touch soft in the center but I’m not super concerned. Unless convince otherwise I would probably choose to print the single capture if it ever came down to that. Your thougths?

I’d vote for the single capture, Bill. In that image, the open flower is clearly the subject, whereas in the stack, I think the buds end up the subject with the foreground flower playing second fiddle, partly because of the soft center. If you really need a name for the plant it’s one that my fellow restoration volunteers and I referred to as “DYCs”.

I agree with Dennis.

I also prefer the single focus shot because the buds don’t compete with the main attraction.
