I love everything about this creation - the subtle palette, the composition , particularly the panoramic wider format, the way the detail on the right is contrasted by the left side.
It definitely looks very peaceful. The post processing looks spot on - no suggestions, and the understated framing works too.
The number of layers visible from front to back is amazing.
The only initial thoughts were about the three darker areas on the left, whether they might be lightened a little to match the 3 on the right to the left of the mound with trees, but eventually decided that as presented is best, its where the eye goes first and the leading lines from here to the right all work beautifully.
Bonnie, two things grab me at first viewing; 1) the sense that the foreground beach is waves and 2) those lovely pastel colors in the sky. While an ocean beach is never silent, it can be very peaceful and this shows that well. The many layers fading into the distance are great.
I think so, and your image is a good example. In my mind I hear the white noise of the waves, but interestingly that conveys silence to me because it becomes background flow that helps to “tamp down” all the other noise.
I noted those, also. They are probably a bit darker than originally, because I did some dodging/burning to the foreground to bring out the “waves” (thanks for that though, Mark). I could go back and erase the burning off those bushes.
Good point, John. This part of the beach is rather quiet because there is an expanse of dunes between here and the ocean proper.
Bonnie: Wonderful pastel color palette and just the right amount of FG for my tastes. I’ve sat oceanside when the waves weren’t boisterous and definitely felt the silence perhaps interrupted only by the calls of the gulls. Makes me want to be there.>=))>
So quiet and peaceful - and yes silence. I liked John’s description of “white noise”, as I can hear or imagine that faint sound of the distant surf - a sound that really is silencing… I don’t know why, but all of a sudden I’m reminded of the phrase/question, “If a tree falls in the forest, and no on is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”
I’m so glad you included all that beautiful sky - as others have mentioned, I just love the gradation of very soft colors. Just beautiful.
The dunes and headlands are important and provide an anchor… but those pastels really emphasize that silence.
